Novotel’s Bangkok Airport Hotel Focuses on MICE Market Expansion in 2009
MICE Clients Targeted By Novotel Suvarnabhumi in 2009
Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel Eyes MICE Market in 2009
Despite the global economic downturn, Thailand has stepped up efforts to take the title as the world’s top market for meetings and events in 2009, and the award-winning Bangkok airport hotel Novotel Suvarnabhumi is poised to take advantage.
Bangkok, 15 January, 2009 – Thailand is seeking to become the top destination for meetings, incentives, conventions, and events (MICE) and Novotel Suvarnabhumi is targeting a share of the important market.
The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) has made big progress in cementing relations between public and private sectors, and promoting Thailand as a MICE destination. Last year TCEB launched a dedicated MICE lane at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Supported by UFI, the global association of the exhibition industry, the bureau has also put new exhibition regulations into place to raise standards. Bangkok hosted PATA’s Green Challenge while Impact hosted both the 22,000-b Herbalife Extravaganza and ITU Telecoms Asia 2008.
But Thailand is battling the backdrop of declining demand, driven by worries over the political tension in Bangkok, which saw both the international and domestic airports temporarily close, and the global economic crisis.
The TCEB has outlined a strategy for 2009 to revive the MICE industry by emphasizing new marketing plans and turning to domestic demand. The TCEB has prepared more than Bt550 million to implement the revival plan for the MICE industry, including Bt190 million to support the events-promotion plan.
“Despite the global financial crisis and local political problems, the TCEB and operators will revise their strategies to strengthen and encourage Thailand to be the top destination for domestic and international MICE activities,” President Natwut Amornvivat said recently.
The TCEB will promote inbound business by offering special packages to all corporate groups planning a meeting here. The organization will stimulate the domestic market by dividing its marketing plan into three main concepts: familiarization trips, business-matching, and market development in both the public and the private sectors.
Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel caters to Bangkok’s growing meeting and event market with more than 2,400 square meters of conference space, including a stunning ballroom for as many as 1,000 people, and six additional meeting and function rooms.
From the airport, the hotel is a pleasant 10-minute walk through the underground tunnel that links the two buildings together. At this convenient location, Novotel Suvarnabhumi is an ideal place to replenish, lounge, or while away the time before boarding the next flight.
